How does a SEAMate1A® work?

When the pilot climbs up the ladder he has his laptop and his SEAMate1A® with him. When he reaches the bridge he walks to the ship’s AIS, finds the Pilot Plug and plugs in his SEAMate1A®. He switches on his laptop and he is online.

He can now access all the data about the ship that has been registered in the ship’s AIS-profile; draught, scantling, cargo and destination. He can also access AIS-information about other ships that are within reach. And he has access to a GPS system.

On his laptop he has his own ECDIS-map, with his own notes - that he knows is fully updated. With the GPS-information from the ship’s AIS he can find his location on the map. And with the AIS-information he knows where other ships around him are precisely located.

He can now take his laptop with him wherever he goes on the bridge and on both bridge wings without loosing connection to his SEAMate1A® as this has a wireless connection with a reach of up to 70 meters.

If the Pilot Plug of the ship’s AIS should not work, the pilot brings his SEAMate1A® into one of the bridge wings, then it will automatically download GPS-information onto the pilot’s chart.
